Inverness Royal Academy's Historic Climb

Sgorr Ruadh (Wester Ross) 962m

Inverness Royal Academy’s connection with this peak was renewed when 7 Gold Award participants and 3 leaders flagged it for DofE on the 20th June.  Yes!  It was midsummer’s eve and there we were, in full winter gear, shivering in the cloud and wind.  Moments later the skies cleared to reveal the magnificence of our surroundings, and the dizzying heights that we had reached!

The school’s association with this mountain goes back a long way.  “Academy Ridge” (GradeVD) on Sgorr Ruadh is named after the school, whose Outdoor Club made the first ascent of it in 1948.
